Cambridge, MA – Jun 6, 2023 – EdSpark, a dynamic community event designed to empower and propel the next generation of educational enthusiasts and technology pioneers, concluded successfully. The event, a collaborative initiative of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Asian Pacific Education Student International Association, and Stanford-EPIC, was dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment for innovation and meaningful change in education.

Hosted by prestigious educational institutions, including the Harvard Venture Club and the University of Pennsylvania Quakers Venture Club, the event encouraged high school and college students to address educational inequities through innovative business planning and course design.

Serene Wang, a co-initiator of the event and a notable leader in the education industry, presided as one of the esteemed panel judges and played a pivotal role in initiating and leading the whole event. Her vast experience and vision for progressive education set the stage for an exhilarating competition. The Innovative Education Business Idea Pitch Competition awarded first place to Reese Ma, with Xinyao Zhou and Yuxuan Wang coming in second, and John Yuan in third. In the Innovative Teaching Competition, Yingying He claimed the top spot, followed by Peter Wu and George Gao, respectively.

The competition received an overwhelming response, showcasing a variety of ingenious ideas and concepts. Several of the competing projects have already been actualized into products, highlighting the readiness of these young innovators to disrupt the status quo in education.

The event’s judging panel included eminent personalities like Dr. Douglas Clayton, a board member at the University of Pennsylvania and former SVP at SES; Kunal Johar, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder at OpenWater, Inc.; Michael P. Toothman, a renowned education consultant; Yu Zhou, a distinguished professor from Columbia University; Serene Wang, an award-winning best-selling author and CEO of EliteLink; Frank Tang, an director and professor of teaching and learning program at New York University; and Charles Liu, president of the Harvard Venture Club and Forbes 30U30, ANTHEMIUS Li, president of the Harvard APESIA.
