Betsy Ramos Soto Selected as Top Executive Director of the Year by IAOTP
Betsy Ramos Soto, Executive Director of the Vernon Housing Authority, was recently selected as the Top Executive Director of the Year 2023 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry.
While inclusion in the IAOTP community is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are selected based on their affiliations, academic achievements, professional accomplishments, leadership abilities, field longevity, and community contributions. All award recipients are invited to the IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala at the end of this year, where they will be honored for their achievements.
Having almost two decades of excellence in public housing management, Ms. Soto has certainly proven herself as an accomplished expert in the field. She is a dynamic, results-driven leader who has demonstrated success and advancement throughout her career. Currently, Ms. Soto is the Executive Director of the Vernon Housing Authority. Betsy’s career in the Vernon Housing Authority began as an office assistant in 2005. In 2010 and 2014, she was promoted to housing coordinator and housing programs manager, respectively.
Betsy’s areas of expertise include but are not limited to administrative oversight of all property management operations, agency management, capital grant implementation and finances, staff supervision, housing court representation, construction management, public relations, public housing management, procurement & bidding, and vacancy reduction & unit turnover management.
Before embarking on her career path, Ms. Soto received an Associate’s Degree in Business Office Technology from Manchester Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Eastern Connecticut State University. Additionally, Ms. Soto holds several credentials, including the Public Housing Manager Certification,
HCV Executive Management Certification, Procurement and Contract Management Certification, and Certification as a Certified HCV Expert.
Throughout her illustrious career, Betsy has received awards and accolades and was recognized worldwide for her expertise in Public Housing Management. This year she is being considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professional) Magazine and the Empowered Woman of the Year Award from the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). She will be honored for her distinction as Top Executive Director of the Year 2023 at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala at the iconic Plaza Hotel in NYC this December.
Ms. Soto is a respected member of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, as well as the New England Regional Council and CONN-NAHRO. Since 2016, she has served as an Executive Board Member, VP Member Services, Scholarship Committee, Professional Development, NERC-NAHRO Executive Board Member, NERC-NAHRO Scholarship Committee, NAHRO NATIONAL Small Agency Advisory Committee, NAHRO NATIONAL Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee, NAHRO NATIONAL Member Services Committee, NAHRO NATIONAL PHA Awards Committee, and HAI GROUP Insurance Solutions Committee Charter Committee.
