Schneider Electric At Elecrama – Highlights | Day 4

January 23
11:06 2020

Day 4 at Elecrama turned out to be even more spectacular as Schneider Electric won the first prize for the ‘best stall design’ for booths across all the businesses exhibiting at Elecrama!  The buzz at our Thought Leadership Theatre (TLT) continued with 5 powerful sessions lined up.

Here’s a snapshot of the TLT sessions:

Session 1: Making the Grid Green for a New World of Energy

Day 4 at the Thought Leadership Theatre kicked off with a discussion by Frederic Godemel, EVP, Energy Systems, Schneider Electric & Ponniah Sankarakumar, Director, Energy Systems, Schneider Electric India on a new world of energy, decarbonisation, and what the future holds in terms of efficient energy use and consumption.

They shared their insights into:

  • The New world of energy which will be about decarbonised energy, where electricity will be the principle source of energy.
  • Automatise electricity and substituting fossil energy with it, which will help achieve a low carbon footprint.
  • Future of green energy will be a mix of renewables, automation and local storage. We will be able to compensate stability of renewables in a localised manner.
  • Bring affordable microgrid solutions and provide good quality of power locally.
  • Decarbonisation, Digitisation and Automation will balance the climate change equation.

Our industry is transforming, and environmental concern is at the heart of this sector. Being one of the powerful GHGs that contributes to global warming, at Schneider Electric, we have developed SF6-free switchgear for medium voltage. With our pledge to go SF6-free completely by 2025, we are making a cause towards green energy, efficiency and sustainability.

Session 2: Making Energy Easy to Understand

In this session, Nadege Petit, EVP Power Products Division, Schneider Electric & Shrinivas Chebbi, President, Power Products, Schneider Electric India talked about the transition towards an All-Electric and All-Digital world. At Schneider Electric, we are powering and digitising the economy. It is important to focus on this energy shift and understand what it means for people, for organisations and for the planet.

Both Nadege and Shrinivas reiterated:

  • We are designing an all-electric and digital world, and both complement each other.
  • We need to decarbonise from generation to consumption.
  • Connectivity and digitisation will bring more efficiency in the electrical distribution system.
  • The future is going to be electric. With connectivity and digitisation, electricity will be safer and more reliable.

Session 3: Digitising Power Reliability

In his TED Type talkAlexis Grenon, SVP, Digital Power, Schneider Electric emphasised the urgency of the world becoming sustainable. With CO2 emissions leading to rising temperature, there will be disastrous consequences, both on environmental and economic level.

He examined the challenges of addressing power quality, solutions provided by Schneider Electric and how digitisation and energy efficiency help in tackling sustainability challenges but puts pressure on power quality.

Alexis also talked about how Schneider Electric is dealing with and helping others deal with climate change, energy curve and trends by optimising the way we consume energy; electrify; and decarbonise and make renewables as our source of energy. And the way we achieve these three is by revolutionising where we electrify one side and digitise on the other.

Session 4Buildings of the Future

In this session of the TLT Sanjay Sudhakaran, VP Digital Energy, Schneider Electric India was in conversation with Bhupesh Arora, Director, Digital Buildings, Schneider Electric India on Buildings of the Future.

The talk explored various trends in buildings, challenges of urbanisation and surge of energy consumption that accompanies it. The need for making buildings of the future is accelerated due to the irreversible phenomenon — urbanisation.

One of the trends in buildings is the high demand for personalisation, customising products to the needs of the user. Today, workplaces want to make their space intuitive, secure, safe. At Schneider Electric, we are collectively working towards making buildings efficient, simple and sustainable through our EcoStruxure solutions.

Session 5: Addressing the Energy Dilemma in Data Centers

The last session of the day was a TED Type Talk delivered by Venkatraman Swaminathan, VP, Secure Power, Schneider Electric, India. Venkat began by sharing Urbanisation, Industrialisation and Digitisation are megatrends in our times and because of these trends, energy consumption is going to constantly grow. This leads to an energy dilemma because if our planet has to be saved from the climate change and adverse environmental condition, we need to halve our CO2 emissions over the next 3 decades.

In our times data is proliferating and its usage going up multi fold and for this volume of data to be processed the basic tool required is ‘energy’. Infact energy happens to be on the P&L of these organisations.  So what we have on our hands is an energy dilemma to solve! In comes technology to the rescue- what whatever is measurable is able to be managed. If one can manage that energy, they have managed the P&L of a company.

Statistics say 40% energy consumption in an organisation is their data center and in that 40% – 50% of this is used for cooling.  Here’s where Schneider Electric’s IOT solutions come into play- our connected assets talk to each other and therefore we know how to optimise the air flow management etc., for instance in data centres. Energy efficiency is therefore one significant way of managing the energy dilemma.
