Air defense against COVID-19. AIRsteril air purification products, now available locally

Punta Gorda, Florida – August 24, 2020 – We’re still learning about how the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) spreads. But one thing we know for sure—it travels through the air.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus is spread mainly through close person-to-person contact, within about 6 feet, by respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks or sings.  Those droplets can land in the mouths, noses or eyes of those nearby, or be inhaled.

A new line of defense against aerosol spread of infection and odors is coming to local homes and businesses from AIRsteril Florida, a locally owned and operated subsidiary of AIRsteril, the exclusive distributor for AIRsteril air purification products in the United States.

The AIRsteril product line is designed and manufactured by Airscience Technology International Limited, a UK company specializing in air purification products for controlling indoor odors and infections.

AIRsteril’s upright units ensure fresh, clean air in care homes, waste processing plants, theaters, laboratories, health clubs, airports, hotels, doctors’ and dentists’ offices, hospitals and schools. Their aim is to improve the quality of air in enclosed spaces by reducing odors and the bacteria, viruses, mold, fungi and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in the air and on surfaces.

AIRsteril units suit a wide range of applications from small bedrooms, waiting rooms, offices and washrooms to kitchens and prep areas, large lounges, gyms and auditoriums. Customers can choose from a range of AIRsteril units to suit each location’s size, square footage, foot traffic, level of contamination and required level of sterilization.

AIRsteril products use a unique process based on ultraviolet germicidal irradiation and a series of purification activities both inside the equipment and in the plasma that safely exits it.

Airborne testing of the equipment at the UK’s Health Protection Agency Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response showed a 98.11% reduction in bacteria including MRSA and a 92.17% reduction in a norovirus surrogate which has proven more difficult to kill than SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.  To replicate real-world conditions, all testing was carried out with a low-powered fan unit designed to operate over a 24-hour period in smaller occupied areas.

The use of AIRsteril units in National Health Service call centers and offices has been shown to reduce illness-related absences, including colds, coughs, influenza and other respiratory ailments.
